The expression
"I want to give you THE WORLD" took on a whole new meaning
for me recently.
On a sunny
April afternoon I was one of a group of guests taken by a
Thames catamaran from London's Tower Pier towards Greenwich.
Nearing the 'Cutty Sark' we saw a huge white-hulled vessel,
moored in the River. We were assisted onto a pontoon and trod
the red carpet into the ship. The immediate feeling was of
luxury - deep-pile carpets, original artwork, beautiful woodwork
and lighting.
The concept
is that The World of ResidenSea is the first luxury community
at sea continuously circumnavigating the globe, with 88 guest
suites available for the high-end vacation market and 110
elegant, privately owned residences, some of which are available
for rental.

|
| Our
tour of Deck 5 went through The Village, the main pedestrian
street, leading from stern to bow. This led us through the Plaza. |
|
|
|
| From
there we went on to The World Boutique and Fredy's Deli,
|
|
|
| and
there onwards to the exclusive jeweller House of Graff and The
Marina Restaurant and Bar. This was light and spacious with
the first good views of the surrounding water |
|
|
|
| There
are Conference Rooms, a Card Room, The World Spa, Harmony (the
designated space for worship), the Art Gallery, a Casino, an
Internet Café, The Study (Library) and other Restaurants and
activities. |
|
|
|
| Guest
Suites accommodating up to 170 passengers are on several Decks.
Private Residences have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully
equipped private kitchen and a dining area, a sitting room,
TV and hi-fi system and can accommodate 310 passengers in great
luxury, including balconies with a Jacuzzi. |
|
|
|
Deck 11
is the Pool Deck with various eating and drinking options.
Deck 12 is the Sports Deck, dedicated to sporting activities
and outdoor recreation, providing spectacular ocean views.
This includes a full-size tennis court and a 700 square foot
putting green with real grass! I imagine the 40-course golf
simulator would gladden the heart of anyone planning to challenge
Tiger Woods!
The itinerary
of the vessel is planned more than a year in advance to coincide
with world social events etc. such as the Cannes Film Festival,
Monaco Grand Prix, and to visit Valletta, Bergen, Edinburgh,
St. Petersburg, St. John's Newfoundland, Boston etc.
The Ancient
Mariner may not be on board, but it will be interesting to
see how long or often the proud owners of homes on The World
are prepared to circumnavigate the world.
